Nico Horning is a versatile sports broadcaster specializing in television and radio play-by-play and studio hosting.
Recently graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, the Sacramento, California native has experience calling football, basketball, baseball, hockey, volleyball, softball, and lacrosse while also hosting studio shows and covering sports as a reporter and writer. He enjoys telling the stories of athletes and team personnel while bringing audiences closer to the action in real time, with a focus on humanizing athletes and sharing their experiences beyond the box score.
Nico is currently a Broadcast/Media Relations Assistant with the Peoria Chiefs for the MiLB season. The Chiefs are the High-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
His play-by-play experience includes fill-in work for the Sacramento River Cats (AAA-Giants) and Syracuse Crunch (AHL), along with broadcasts on the ACC Network, WAER, WJPZ, and the Peoria Chiefs.
Nico’s gained industry experience through work with NBC Sports, contributing to coverage of the Paris Olympics, U.S. Open, FedEx St. Jude Championship, and the American Century Championship. He was also grateful to attend media row and cover Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco via the Newhouse Sports Media Center.
Nico has served as a studio host for ACC Network field hockey coverage and CitrusTV’s pregame show of “Cuse Countdown” and postgame coverage of “Orange Press Pass.” He has also appeared on ESPN Radio Syracuse and WAER as a sports talk host.
As a reporter and writer, Nico’s work has been featured by the Orange Fizz, BVM Sports, and the Newhouse Student News Team.
